MIKE MULLANE
Colonel Mullane was born in 1945 in Wichita Falls, Texas but spent much of his youth in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he currently resides. Mullane was selected as an astronaut in 1978 in the first group of Space Shuttle Astronauts. He completed three space missions and has logged 356 hours in space.

A graduate from West Point in 1967, he was commissioned into the U.S. Air Force as a Weapon Systems Operator aboard RF-4C Phantom aircraft, where he completed 150 combat missions in Vietnam.

Colonel Mullane holds a Master's of Science Degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology and is also a graduate of the Air Force Flight Test Engineer School at Edwards Air Force Base, California. Colonel Mullane was a mission specialist on the crew of STS-41D. During this 7-day mission the crew successfully deployed three satellites, conducted student crystal growth experiments, and photography experiments using the IMAX motion picture camera. STS-27 and STS-36 were both Department of Defense missions with classified payloads.

Colonel Mullane was inducted into the International Space Hall of Fame and is the recipient of many other awards including the Air Force Distinguished Flying Cross, Legion of Merit and the NASA Space Flight Medal.

Since his retirement from NASA and the Air Force in 1990, Colonel Mullane has established himself as an acclaimed professional speaker, an author and a host of a USA Network TV program entitled Inside Space.

His wonderfully entertaining presentation of Stories from Space has allowed Colonel Mullane to thrill adults and children with his inspirational, motivational and humorous descriptions of the astronaut experience.
