JAMES OBERG
A 22-year veteran of NASA’s space shuttle program, James Oberg has immersed himself into all aspects of human space flight. During his time at NASA, Oberg specialized in space shuttle operations for orbital rendezvous. This led Oberg to develop and author books on the subject. In 1984 the NASA-Area “Association of Technical Societies” selected Oberg as the “Technical Person of the Year”. In 1997 he also received the "Sustained Superior Performance" award for designing the complex first Space Station assembly mission.

Oberg is widely regarded as a world authority on the Russian space program. He has testified before Congress about the problems facing the Russian space industry. He is also on the editorial board of "Air & Space" magazine, and “SPECTRUM”, the monthly magazine of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.

Mr. Oberg has been the space consultant and correspondent for ABC News, United Press International. Oberg has written eight books and numerous articles on space flight. His book "Red Star in Orbit" was the basis of the 1991 PBS NOVA mini-series devoted to new revelations about the history of the Russian cosmonaut program.

Currently, Mr. Oberg resides in Texas and is now a full-time writer, consultant and speaker.
